Original 1966 Batmobile up for auction

George Barris's (Original 1966) Batmobile has been sold off to the highest bidder. It has been sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The previous single record for a car from a movie or television show rested with the 1964 Aston Martin DB5, driven by Sean Connery as James Bond in "Goldfinger" at $4.2 million in 2010. An attempt in 2010 to sell one of five Tim Burton-era Batmobiles online garnered a high bid of only $110,000, well short of the $620,000 sought. The 1966 Batmobile ended at a $4.2 million, which makes this a joint tie with the 1964 James Bond Asston Martin DB5. The buyer comission fee alone was $420,000!!

I actually had a chance to see it in person last year and got a few snaps of myself and the ride. Needless to say, I took the bus home that day.
